PMDU - June Task - Hunters Task 1

    “Hey Eyebrows, check out my awesome drawing. Cool, huh?”

    Prince lazily gazed over at his espurr acquaintance. She was lying in the grass next to him, surrounded by a mass of crayons and papers scribbled with various lines, words and colour. When she called Prince’s attention, she leapt up next to him and proudly showed off the piece she was working on.

    “Oi, get that thing out of my face!” the minccino demanded, waving it away with his paw. He could barely even see the picture with the piece of paper shoved directly into it.

    “Hey, sorry dude,” Smiley apologised. She pulled it away from him at a more respectable distance, which was really only about two inches or less. “But y’know, you heard what that Robin guy said. We have to make some flashy, eye-catching posters that will win the hearts of all the dear citizens of this fair town. And we gotta be a bit pushy if we want ‘em to hear what a couple of pipsqueaks like us have to say. I’m just practising on you first. So what do you think?”

    Prince squint his eyes at the picture in front of him, as if confused and trying to find some sort of hidden meaning behind the image. “What are those two grey things, and what’s the giant statue trying to do to them? Eat them?”

    “Pfff – don’t be silly. Of course it’s not eating them.” She brought her arm around the picture, pointing to both of the grey splotches in the statue’s colossal arms, “That’s you, there’s me, and we’re both giving him a gigantic hug! He’s hugging us back. Or at least, that’s supposed to be the idea. We all know statues can’t come to life, don’t we, Eyebrows?”

    Prince blinked at the picture again, surprised. He had been convinced that the image looked more like the giant statue was devouring two clumps of grey cotton candy. The pink things in the background that he suddenly realised were hearts had previously made it look like the regigigas was surrounded by a school of luvdisc. For being so confident in her skills, Smiley’s art skills could use a lot more refining.

    “So this is what you’re planning on showing everyone in town?” he asked, his voice slightly mocking. “Might as well just toss apples at them and start screaming Save the Wailord.”

    “Aw, thanks for your kind input,” Smiley sniggered, her purple eyes glowing in the sun’s reflection, “I knew you’d love it. I guess that settles things, then. I’ll hold up this one, and you can hold up one of the others! We’ll circle around town and start protesting our message of peace and love for all the little children. It’ll be like a game, almost, to see who can yell the loudest and the most obnoxiously.”

    “Ugh, whatever. You’re going to owe me for this.”  

    “Yeah, well – we owe a little somethin’ to our statue friend first, don’t you think?” the espurr challenged. “Plus, we ain’t just a couple of everyday chumps anymore. We’re a part of the Hunters guild.” She stretched out her arms, then proceeded to brush off all the dirt from her fur. Prince couldn’t help but grimace in response.

    “No thanks to you… ” he muttered, rolling his blue eyes. He glanced down at the papers scattered around them, flicking one away with his tail. “Besides, I still don’t get it.”

    “What’s there to get?” Smiley asked. Her eyes glowed as she initiated a swift psychic; all the papers were pulled from the ground and dropped into her paws in a neat and tidy stack.   

    “What do you think? The whole statue thing. That dumb item the Hunters’ lackey, Kara, made us collect. And now this…” The minccino made a quick gesture, then crossed his arms against his furry chest. “They’re trying to make us convince the town that the statue isn’t even a threat. Mind you, that thing almost flattened me to death, and probably sent hundreds of others scurrying away through that blasted fog.”

    “Yeah… soooooo?” the espurr replied, “Everybody has bad days.” She squint her eyes and chuckled, adding, “You should know that better than anyone. Almost every day is a bad day for you.”

    Prince grunted. “Bah, enough of this nonsense. Let’s just… get this over with...” He looked disdainfully at Smiley as she placed a paper in his paw. “What did they say our reward would be again? Something actually useful, I hope.”

    “Guess we’ll just have to find out, won’t we?” his partner chuckled, pushing the remainder of the stack under her arm. Both pokemon looked off into the distance, where the city of Andalusst was waiting for them. Even from afar, both of them could tell that it was practically bursting with activity, as usual.

    “Ugh… I was afraid you’d say that.”

Whoo -- so yeah, I know this is a bit messy and not the best thing I've drawn. I went into the illustration at the last minute, and I had a bit of trouble with the poses, although I guess it'll do for now. Ewthoseclouds. Since the deadline for June Tasks was unexpectedly given a 6 day extension, I may be participating in the main task with someone now.

I kinda like the "anime screenshot" idea for these small written tasks and errands -- or just an addition to written stuff in general (you know, when I'm not drawing comics). I might do that more often.
